The Sierra EV enters a segment where the Hyundai Creta Electric has already had over a year to build a track record, a service network, and genuine owner trust. This isn’t a case of a new nameplate against an unknown quantity, it’s a genuinely new challenger against an established name, and both cars make real, different arguments for your money. Here’s how they actually compare, beyond the headline numbers.

Price Comparison

Tata Sierra EVHyundai Creta Electric
Starting price (ex-showroom)Rs 18.79 lakhRs 18.03 lakh
Top variant price (ex-showroom)Rs 25.99 lakhRs 24.70 lakh
Number of variants518 (across 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh)

The Creta Electric undercuts the Sierra EV by roughly Rs 76,000 at the entry point, a narrow enough gap that it shouldn’t be the deciding factor on its own. What’s more meaningful is variant spread: Hyundai offers 18 variants across its two battery options, giving buyers considerably finer-grained control over exactly which features they pay for, while Tata’s five-variant Sierra EV lineup is comparatively simpler to navigate but offers fewer intermediate choices.

Battery, Range & Charging

Tata Sierra EVHyundai Creta Electric
Battery options63 kWh, 75 kWh42 kWh, 51.4 kWh
Claimed range (larger battery)665 km (MIDC)510 km (MIDC)
Claimed range (smaller battery)565 km (MIDC)420 km (MIDC)
DC fast chargingUp to 120 kWUp to 100 kW (via OTA update)
Charging time (fast charge)25-26 min (20-80%)Approx. 50-58 min (10-80%)
Home AC charger7.2 kW, optional (Rs 49,000)11 kW, optional

This is where the Sierra EV takes a genuinely clear lead. Both its battery options claim meaningfully more range than the Creta Electric’s equivalent packs, roughly 145-150 km more on the larger batteries. The Sierra EV also charges noticeably faster on a DC fast charger thanks to its higher 120 kW charging capacity against the Creta Electric’s 100 kW ceiling, translating to roughly half the charging time for a similar top-up.

Worth noting on the Creta Electric side: Hyundai improved its claimed range figures through an over-the-air update in September 2025, from 390 km to 420 km on the smaller battery and 473 km to 510 km on the larger one, alongside adding support for faster 100 kW DC charging without any hardware change. It’s a genuinely useful reminder that EV specifications aren’t always fixed at launch, and it’s worth checking current figures rather than assuming older reviews still reflect the latest state of either car.

Performance & Drivetrain

Tata Sierra EVHyundai Creta Electric
All-wheel drive availableYes (Empowered A only)No
Torque (top variant)504 Nm (AWD) / 315 Nm (RWD)Not applicable, single motor FWD
0-100 kmph5.8 seconds (AWD variant)Not specified

This is a genuine, structural difference between the two cars rather than a minor spec gap. The Sierra EV offers all-wheel drive as an option, something the Creta Electric doesn’t offer at all in any variant. If AWD or off-road terrain modes matter to your buying decision, the Creta Electric simply isn’t in this conversation, and the Sierra EV wins by default. If you don’t need AWD, this difference matters less, and the Creta Electric’s front-wheel-drive setup is well-proven for everyday Indian driving conditions.

Dimensions & Practicality

Tata Sierra EVHyundai Creta Electric
Boot space622 litres433 litres
FrunkYes (35-55 litres)Not specified
Ground clearance205 mm190 mm

The Sierra EV’s practicality advantage here is significant and easy to overlook if you’re only comparing price and range. Nearly 190 litres more boot space, plus a frunk the Creta Electric doesn’t offer, is a real, everyday difference for families who actually travel with luggage rather than just commute. The Sierra EV’s slightly higher ground clearance also gives it a modest edge on Indian roads with speed breakers and uneven surfaces, though the 15 mm gap is unlikely to be something you’d notice without driving both back to back.

Features & Safety

Both cars are well-equipped for their price bracket, with genuine feature overlap: Level 2 ADAS, multiple airbags, ventilated seats, panoramic sunroofs, and large touchscreen displays are present on higher variants of both. The Sierra EV adds V2L and V2V charging capability and a segment-claimed largest sunroof, while the Creta Electric counters with a more configurable regenerative braking system, including an i-PEDAL mode and an Auto mode that ties into ADAS inputs for adaptive braking behaviour in traffic.

On safety credentials specifically, the Creta Electric has an established track record in the Indian market since its January 2025 launch, while the Sierra EV, as a freshly launched model, doesn’t yet have a published independent Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP rating at the time of writing. Buyers who weigh independently verified crash safety heavily in their decision should factor in this gap until Tata’s rating is confirmed.

Brand Trust & Service Network

This is genuinely difficult to overstate as a factor for Indian buyers, and it’s the area where the Creta Electric has a real, tangible edge that no spec sheet comparison captures. Hyundai has been selling cars in India for decades, and the Creta nameplate specifically carries strong brand recognition and an extensive service network across metro and non-metro cities alike. The Sierra EV, while backed by Tata Motors, one of India’s most established manufacturers with a large and growing EV-specific service and charging network, is still a new model without the specific track record the Creta Electric has built up over its 18 months on sale.

If after-sales confidence and a proven ownership experience specifically on the electric variant matter more to you than outright specs, that weighs toward the Creta Electric. If you’re comfortable being an early adopter of a new model backed by an experienced manufacturer, the Sierra EV’s stronger range and practicality numbers become easier to prioritise.

Who Should Buy the Tata Sierra EV

Choose the Sierra EV if range is your top priority, since it beats the Creta Electric by a meaningful margin on both battery options. It’s also the clear choice if you specifically want AWD, need genuinely more boot and frunk space for family use, or are drawn to its distinctive retro styling over the Creta’s more conventional SUV silhouette.

Who Should Buy the Hyundai Creta Electric

Choose the Creta Electric if brand trust and an established service network matter more to you than outright range, if you want the flexibility of choosing from 18 variants to fine-tune exactly which features you pay for, or if you’d rather buy a model with over a year of real ownership data and reviews behind it instead of a freshly launched nameplate.

On pure specifications, the Sierra EV wins convincingly on range, charging speed, boot space, and drivetrain flexibility with its AWD option. The Creta Electric’s case rests on something specs can’t fully capture: an established name, a proven service network, and over a year of real-world ownership data that the Sierra EV simply hasn’t had time to build yet. Neither is the objectively better car in isolation, it depends on whether you weigh fresh capability or proven trust more heavily in a purchase this size.
