Volkswagen has officially revealed key specifications of its upcoming electric SUV, the Volkswagen ID Cross, ahead of its global launch. This new model is expected to play an important role in the brand’s growing electric vehicle lineup. Positioned as a compact electric SUV, the ID Cross is designed to offer a balance of practicality, efficiency, and modern technology for everyday use.
Battery Options and Performance
The Volkswagen ID Cross will be offered with two battery pack options, giving buyers flexibility based on their needs. The entry-level variant will come with a 37kWh battery, while a larger 52kWh battery will be available for those looking for more performance and range.
The smaller battery version is expected to produce power outputs ranging from around 116 hp to 135 hp, making it suitable for city driving and daily commuting. The larger battery variant delivers a stronger output of around 211 hp, offering better acceleration and overall performance. Both versions are equipped with a front-mounted electric motor, ensuring smooth and responsive driving.
Driving Range and Charging
Range is one of the most important factors for electric vehicles, and Volkswagen seems to have focused well on this aspect. The ID Cross is expected to deliver a range of up to approximately 316 km with the smaller battery and up to 436 km with the larger battery, based on global testing standards.
Charging capabilities are also quite impressive. The SUV supports fast charging, allowing the battery to be charged from 10% to 80% in around 25 minutes. This makes it convenient for long-distance travel and reduces waiting time during charging stops.
Platform and Practicality
The Volkswagen ID Cross is built on the brand’s advanced MEB+ platform, which is specifically developed for electric vehicles. This platform allows for better space management, improved efficiency, and enhanced driving dynamics.
In terms of size, the SUV falls into the compact category but still offers good interior space. It comes with a generous boot capacity of around 475 litres, along with additional front storage space. This makes it a practical choice for families and daily use.
Exterior Design and Styling
Even though the car has been seen mostly in camouflaged form, several design elements are already visible. The ID Cross features a modern and clean design with sleek LED headlights, a bold front fascia, and smooth body lines.
Higher variants are expected to offer more premium elements such as advanced lighting systems, larger alloy wheels, and stylish detailing. Overall, the design reflects Volkswagen’s new electric vehicle identity, combining simplicity with a futuristic touch.
Interior and Features
Inside the cabin, the Volkswagen ID Cross offers a tech-focused and minimalistic design. The dashboard is expected to feature a digital instrument cluster and a large touchscreen infotainment system that controls most of the car’s functions.
The SUV is likely to come equipped with features such as dual-zone climate control, wireless connectivity, adaptive cruise control, and a premium sound system in higher variants. The interior is designed to be comfortable, modern, and user-friendly, making it suitable for both short drives and long journeys.
Launch Timeline and Expectations
Volkswagen has indicated that the ID Cross will be launched in global markets between September and November 2026. However, there is no official confirmation yet regarding its launch in India.
If introduced in the Indian market, the ID Cross could become a strong competitor in the compact electric SUV segment, especially with its combination of range, features, and practicality.
