New Delhi: Toyota Kirloskar Motor has confirmed that the new-generation Hilux will launch in India on July 28, 2026, bringing the country’s first major update to the lifestyle pickup truck since it went on sale here. The confirmation comes roughly eight months after the ninth-generation Hilux made its global debut in November 2025, with Toyota having already introduced the redesigned model in select international markets, including Japan in May 2026.

The outgoing Hilux, currently priced from ₹28.52 lakh (ex-showroom), has been on sale in India for over four years. Toyota has not yet released official India pricing or a detailed spec sheet, so anything beyond the confirmed launch date should be treated as expected rather than final until the company’s own announcement.

What’s changing

The new-gen Hilux gets a ground-up design overhaul rather than a cosmetic refresh. Expect a sharper, more angular front end with a large honeycomb-pattern grille, slim LED headlamps, redesigned bumpers and fenders, and a reworked tailgate with C-shaped tail lamp clusters. The cabin is expected to see an even bigger jump: a floating touchscreen (reported at 12.3 inches), a new three-spoke steering wheel borrowed from Toyota’s recent SUVs, a fully digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, a wireless charging pad and a 360-degree camera are among the features multiple dealer and media reports point to for the India-spec truck.

On the mechanical side, the India model is widely expected to retain the current 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine, paired with 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options, with a 48V mild-hybrid system (already offered on the Fortuner) tipped as a likely addition. None of this has been confirmed by Toyota for the Indian market yet, and exact power and torque figures for the India-spec unit should be treated as unconfirmed until Toyota’s own disclosure closer to launch.

Globally, Toyota has also introduced a fully electric Hilux variant with a 59.2 kWh battery pack and dual-motor all-wheel drive, but this version is not expected to be offered in India at launch.

Why it matters

The Hilux occupies a small but distinct space in India’s market as one of the few non-commercial lifestyle pickups on sale, competing chiefly with the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross. A generational update with a meaningfully upgraded cabin and features gives Toyota room to justify a price increase over the outgoing model, though by how much will only be clear once official pricing is announced. Given the scale of the redesign, expect the new Hilux to command a premium over the current ₹28.52 lakh–₹36 lakh (ex-showroom) range, though TechyTrends.in will confirm exact figures only once Toyota releases them.

Techy Trends will publish full pricing, variant, and specification details as soon as Toyota Kirloskar Motor makes its official announcement on July 28, 2026.
