MG Motor India July 2026 Report: A Small Volume, A Big Signal on EV Adoption

JSW MG Motor India’s July 2026 is less a sales report and more a snapshot of a company that has quietly become India’s most electric-heavy mainstream carmaker. The company dispatched 8,158 units to dealerships during the month, its highest-ever monthly wholesale figure for the second consecutive month, up 22.16% year-on-year from 6,678 units in July 2025 and 7.80% month-on-month from June’s then-record 7,568 units.

More than 80% of JSW MG’s total wholesale dispatches in July were new energy vehicles, electric and hybrid models combined, the highest NEV contribution the company has recorded to date.

A Three-Month Streak, Not a One-Off

July marks the third consecutive month of record wholesale sales for JSW MG, a run that began in May 2026 at 6,048 units, climbed to 7,568 units in June (itself up 30% year-on-year, with EVs already above 75% of volume that month), and reached 8,158 units in July. That’s a sequential, month-over-month build, not a single spike, which is a meaningfully different story than a one-off record driven by a single new-model launch. The NEV share climbing from over 75% in June to over 80% in July suggests the mix shift is accelerating even as overall volume keeps growing, not simply holding steady.

The EV Portfolio Behind the Number

MG’s electric lineup currently spans five models: the Comet EV (₹7.80–10.07 lakh), Windsor EV (₹14.70–19 lakh), ZS EV (₹17.99–20.75 lakh), the premium M9 (₹79.95 lakh), and the Cyberster (₹82.50 lakh), with the Windsor reported as the most popular of the range. On the ICE side, the Astor, Hector, and the newly added Majestor round out the traditional portfolio. JSW MG also introduced a new plug-in hybrid SUV in mid-July, which likely contributed to the NEV share climbing further, since plug-in hybrids are typically counted within the New Energy Vehicle category alongside pure EVs.

This is also useful context for FY2025-26 as a whole: JSW MG’s EV sales for the full previous fiscal year came in at 62,591 units, up 66% year-on-year. July 2026’s single-month NEV share crossing 80% suggests that growth trajectory hasn’t just continued into the new fiscal year, it’s accelerating as a share of the company’s total business, not just in absolute EV units sold.

The Majestor and MG ADAPT

Two structural moves round out July’s release. JSW MG recently launched the Majestor, which the company positions as a D+ segment SUV, its first real push into a larger, more premium SUV category it hadn’t previously addressed. Separately, July also saw the unveiling of MG ADAPT (Advance Drive Architecture Platform Technology), a new platform the company says will underpin its next generation of products across both ICE and NEV lines. Neither development shows up directly in July’s unit numbers yet, the Majestor is too new and ADAPT is a platform announcement rather than a shipping product, but both are relevant for readers tracking where JSW MG’s growth is headed over the next several quarters.

Wholesale vs Retail: What This Figure Represents

This is a wholesale dispatch figure, what JSW MG shipped to its dealer network, not confirmed retail registrations. Managing Director Anurag Mehrotra’s own statement specifically referenced “another month of robust retail sales” alongside the wholesale record, which is a useful, if qualitative, corroboration that the dispatch growth isn’t purely a dealer-stocking effect. Still, FADA’s July retail registration data, once published, remains the more precise number to check this wholesale figure against, particularly given how unusually high the EV/hybrid mix is this month.

Context Against the Industry

At 8,158 units, JSW MG remains a small-volume player next to Maruti Suzuki’s 2,00,123 or even Kia’s 28,200, and its 22% YoY growth sits mid-pack against this month’s broader industry picture, well behind Tata Motors’ 58% or Nissan’s 218%, but ahead of Toyota’s 5%. The number that actually differentiates JSW MG this month isn’t growth rate, it’s composition. No other mainstream Indian carmaker covered in Techy Trends’s July 2026 reporting is running an 80%-plus NEV sales mix; Tata Motors, by comparison, the closest EV-forward competitor among the majors, posted roughly 24% EV penetration in the same month. That gap is the most analytically distinct data point in this month’s entire OEM reporting cycle.
