Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a comprehensively updated S-Class, marking the most extensive refresh of the current generation so far. The flagship luxury sedan receives major upgrades across design, digital systems, driver assistance and powertrain options. According to the company, more than half of the vehicle’s components have been newly developed or significantly reworked as part of this update.
On the exterior, the refreshed S-Class features a revised front design with a larger illuminated grille, which is approximately 20 percent bigger than before. For the first time, the iconic Mercedes star on the bonnet can also be illuminated, enhancing the vehicle’s visual presence. The DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps have been upgraded with advanced micro-LED technology to improve illumination accuracy and adaptability. At the rear, the tail-lamps now feature updated graphics incorporating the brand’s signature three-pointed star motif.
Inside the cabin, the most significant change is the introduction of the new Mercedes-Benz Operating System, known as MB.OS. This system brings infotainment, comfort, safety and driver assistance functions under a unified digital architecture. The latest generation of the MBUX interface runs on this platform and supports over-the-air software updates, allowing features to be updated and refined throughout the vehicle’s lifecycle.
A key highlight of the new system is the AI-powered voice assistant. Mercedes-Benz has integrated advanced language model technology to enable more natural and contextual voice interactions. The assistant can understand complex commands, retain user preferences and respond in a more conversational manner compared to previous systems.
The dashboard layout has also been revised with the introduction of a full-width glass-covered display setup. This includes a large central touchscreen and a dedicated front passenger screen integrated into a single surface. Rear-seat passengers benefit from upgraded entertainment screens measuring 13.1 inches, now equipped with built-in cameras to support video conferencing, reinforcing the S-Class’s focus on rear-seat comfort and productivity.
Driver assistance technology has been further enhanced through updates to the MB.DRIVE suite. The system combines data from cameras, radar and ultrasonic sensors to support advanced assisted driving functions. In selected markets, the updated S-Class will offer point-to-point assisted driving under specific conditions, reflecting Mercedes-Benz’s progress in automated driving systems.
The updated S-Class continues to be offered with a range of petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains. A revised eight-cylinder engine delivers higher performance along with efficiency improvements. Plug-in hybrid variants now offer a longer electric-only driving range, enabling short-distance travel with reduced fuel consumption. Suspension systems such as AIRMATIC and E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL remain available, with refinements aimed at improving ride comfort and handling.
For the Indian luxury car market, this update highlights Mercedes-Benz’s focus on integrating advanced digital technology and comfort features in its flagship model. While an India launch timeline has not been announced yet, the updated S-Class is expected to remain a key product for the brand once introduced locally.
