Volkswagen has dropped the first official teaser of its upcoming Tayron SUV, marking the German brand’s strong return to the premium three-row SUV segment in India. The teaser shared recently on Volkswagen India’s channels shows a large SUV draped in a cover with distinctive LED lighting elements visible at both the front and rear. This hints at a substantial design that goes beyond the compact Tiguan model currently on sale.
Bold SUV Design
Underneath the cover, the silhouette suggests a longer and wider body profile than the regular Tiguan, indicating space for a third row. The teaser reveals full-width LED light signatures, a characteristic design detail that aligns with Volkswagen’s contemporary SUV lineup.
Industry observers believe the India-spec model will stay true to the global Tayron’s rugged look while adapting some styling cues to suit local preferences. The SUV appears poised to occupy a premium family vehicle position once launched.
Seating, Space and Positioning
The Tayron is expected to feature three rows of seats, offering practical space for families and long-distance travel. Its footprint and design suggest it will be significantly more spacious than the standard Tiguan a key advantage in the 7-seater SUV segment. In international markets, the Tayron delivers generous cabin room and useful cargo space even with all three rows in place.
Powertrain and Features (Expected)
While Volkswagen has not officially released full specifications for the India model yet, reports indicate the Tayron will carry a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. This setup is likely to produce around 204 PS of power and 320 Nm of torque, similar to the powertrain used in the Skoda Kodiaq, which shares Volkswagen Group’s MQB Evo platform.
Inside, the SUV is anticipated to feature a large touchscreen infotainment system, a digital driver display, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, and a suite of safety features including multiple airbags and driver assistance technologies bringing it in line with current premium SUV expectations.
Launch Timeline and Market Position
Volkswagen is expected to introduce the Tayron in India soon, with launch timelines pointing toward late 2025 or early 2026. The SUV will likely be locally assembled via CKD (Completely Knocked Down) operations, helping Volkswagen keep competitive pricing in the premium segment.
Once launched, the Tayron will compete with established premium three-row SUVs in India, such as the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq and MG Majestic, seeking to attract buyers looking for space, technology and European SUV styling in one package
