Skoda Auto Volkswagen India has crossed a major production milestone with its compact SUV, the Skoda Kylaq, recording cumulative production of over 50,000 units at its Chakan manufacturing facility near Pune. The achievement comes within a year of the model entering production and highlights the Kylaq’s strong acceptance in the Indian market.

The production milestone reflects sustained demand for the Kylaq in India’s highly competitive compact SUV segment. Since its introduction, the model has played an important role in strengthening Skoda’s domestic portfolio, contributing to higher factory utilisation and steady volumes at the Chakan plant. The pace at which the 50,000-unit mark has been reached underlines the company’s ability to scale manufacturing efficiently.

The Skoda Kylaq is built on the MQB-A0-IN platform, which has been developed specifically for the Indian market. This architecture supports high levels of localisation, enabling Skoda Auto Volkswagen India to control costs while maintaining quality and safety standards. Local sourcing has also helped improve supply chain stability and reduce dependence on imports.

Production operations for the Kylaq have benefited from increased coordination with Indian suppliers and streamlined manufacturing processes. The Chakan facility, which serves as a key production hub for the group in India, has gradually ramped up output to meet rising demand for the model across different regions of the country.

The Kylaq’s success is closely linked to its positioning as a compact SUV tailored for Indian driving conditions. Its dimensions, feature set and powertrain options have been designed to appeal to urban and semi-urban buyers looking for a balance between practicality and comfort. This has allowed the model to attract first-time Skoda customers as well as buyers upgrading within the segment.

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India has indicated that the Kylaq will continue to be a core product for the brand’s growth strategy in the country. Maintaining consistent production volumes will be a priority as the company responds to market demand while ensuring quality and delivery timelines are met.

Crossing the 50,000-unit production milestone reinforces Skoda’s commitment to the Indian market and its long-term manufacturing plans under the Make in India framework. As production continues at the Pune facility, the Kylaq is expected to remain a key contributor to the brand’s presence in India’s compact SUV space.
