January 2026 marked a turning point in the sales mix of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, as overseas demand played a decisive role in supporting overall volumes despite muted conditions in the domestic market.

The company’s domestic sales remained largely flat compared to the same month last year, indicating a slowdown in fresh demand across key passenger vehicle segments. While utility vehicles continued to show relative resilience, smaller and entry-level models faced pressure as buyers delayed purchases amid economic uncertainty and higher ownership costs.

Passenger vehicles continued to account for the majority of domestic volumes, with light commercial vehicles and sales to other manufacturers contributing smaller shares. Although Maruti Suzuki maintained its leadership position, the lack of meaningful growth suggests that the Indian market is entering a more mature and competitive phase.

In contrast, exports delivered a standout performance during the month. Overseas shipments rose sharply and touched the highest monthly level ever achieved by the company. This surge in exports not only offset domestic stagnation but also pushed total sales to a new January record.

The export growth highlights increasing global acceptance of vehicles manufactured in India, supported by competitive pricing, fuel efficiency, and improved production scale. Demand from international markets across Africa, Latin America, and parts of Asia continued to strengthen, reinforcing exports as a critical pillar of growth.

January 2026 Sales Summary

Sales ChannelUnits Sold
Domestic Passenger Vehicles174,529
Light Commercial Vehicles3,771
Sales to Other OEMs7,643
Total Domestic Sales185,943
Exports51,020+
Overall Total Sales236,963

The January data points to a structural shift in Maruti Suzuki’s growth story. Exports are no longer supplementary but are increasingly central to sustaining volumes during periods of domestic demand softness.

Looking ahead, continued strength in global markets could help the company balance uneven demand in India through 2026. If export momentum holds, it may remain the key stabilising factor in Maruti Suzuki’s overall sales performance.
