Electric vehicles are transforming India’s roads, and the latest buzz centers on the Leapmotor T03, a compact Chinese hatchback poised to deliver big value at a pocket-friendly price. Backed by global giant Stellantis, this urban-friendly EV promises a blend of style, tech, and efficiency tailored for crowded Indian cities. With launches expected as early as 2026, it’s generating excitement among budget-conscious buyers eyeing greener alternatives to petrol cars like the Tata Tiago or Maruti Swift.

Stellantis Fuels Leapmotor’s India Push

Stellantis, the powerhouse behind Jeep and Citroen, has confirmed Leapmotor’s entry into India, marking a strategic move to bolster its EV lineup. The partnership leverages Stellantis’ existing network for distribution, potentially starting with CKD kits to dodge high import duties. Industry leaders hint at a debut next fiscal year, positioning Leapmotor as the group’s affordable EV arm amid rising demand for sustainable rides.

This collaboration builds on Leapmotor’s global success, where the T03 has sold over a lakh units in China and expanded to Europe via Polish assembly lines. For India, Stellantis aims to target B-segment buyers with innovative, tech-loaded options that match local needs like tight parking and daily commutes.

Compact Design Meets Urban Needs

At just 3.62 meters long with a 2.4-meter wheelbase, the Leapmotor T03 slips effortlessly into city traffic and narrow spots. Its five-door hatchback body seats four comfortably, offering 210 liters of boot space—ideal for groceries or weekend getaways. Built on Leapmotor’s LEAP 3.0 platform, it boasts a premium feel with 15-inch alloys, electronic parking brake, and a sleek silhouette that turns heads without screaming for attention.

Safety gets a modern edge too, with Level 2 ADAS including cameras and radars for assisted driving. While crash test ratings are pending for India, its global build quality suggests reliability for family use.

Powertrain and Range for Everyday Drives

Under the hood, a 70-80 kW front-mounted motor churns out 94-109 hp and 158 Nm torque, hitting 100 km/h in about 12.7 seconds—plenty peppy for stop-go traffic. The 37.3 kWh LFP battery delivers up to 265-280 km WLTP range, easing range anxiety for urban runs. Fast DC charging zips it from 30-80% in 36 minutes, supported by a 6.6 kW onboard charger.

Multiple driving modes and 92.6% motor efficiency keep running costs low at around ₹1.50 per km. Recent tests, like the 2025 ECOBEST Challenge, proved its real-world range often beats claims.

Tech-Filled Cabin for Connected Rides

Step inside, and a 10.1-inch touchscreen dominates, running navigation, voice controls, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. An 8-inch digital cluster displays vital stats, while four speakers, USB ports, and a panoramic sunroof add flair. Power windows, keyless entry, and a four-spoke steering wheel with controls make it feel upscale.

Pricing, Rivals, and Why India Will Love It

Expected at ₹8-12 lakh ex-showroom, the T03 undercuts many rivals while packing more features. Here’s how it stacks up:

It directly challenges the Tiago EV and Comet EV, offering superior range and ADAS at similar prices. As India’s EV adoption surges—fueled by subsidies and charging networks—the T03 could capture young professionals and first-time buyers seeking style without compromise.

Leapmotor’s arrival signals fiercer competition, potentially slashing prices and accelerating EV growth. Keep watching for official reveals— this little hatch might just redefine affordable electric mobility in India
