Hyundai has unveiled the Staria Electric MPV, marking its entry into large electric multi-purpose vehicles with seating for up to nine people and a range that makes it suitable for family travel, shuttle services, and longer journeys. The new electric Staria was showcased recently at the Brussels Motor Show, positioning it as a zero-emission alternative in a segment traditionally dominated by diesel and petrol people-movers.

Staria Electric Details

At the heart of the Staria Electric is an 84 kWh lithium-ion battery paired with a front-mounted electric motor producing approximately 215 bhp, giving it a claimed real-world driving range of up to 400 kilometres on a single charge. The MPV also features an 800-volt electrical architecture a technology not commonly found in many electric people-carriers that enables rapid DC fast charging from roughly 10 per cent to 80 per cent in about 20 minutes under ideal conditions.

Despite being derived from the standard internal combustion Staria platform, the electric version retains much of the familiar design language. It continues with a tall, monobox silhouette, large panoramic windows, sliding side doors and a wraparound LED light bar that gives it a modern look. Unlike some EV conversions that feel utilitarian, the electric Staria presents a cohesive and purposeful design that aligns with its zero-emission identity while still feeling recognisably Staria.

Inside, Hyundai has equipped the Staria Electric with a Connected Car Navigation Cockpit featuring dual 12.3-inch screens for the driver and infotainment functions, plus support for over-the-air (OTA) updates. Seating configurations include a 7-seat “Luxury” layout with a generous boot space of around 435 litres, as well as a 9-seat “Wagon” mode that can offer up to 1,303 litres of luggage capacity with seats folded catering to both family and commercial shuttle needs.

The electric MPV’s capability is further highlighted by its towing capacity of up to 2,000 kg, which is notable for vehicles in this class. Hyundai also claims a top speed in the region of 183 kph, making the Staria Electric capable not only on city roads but also on sustained highway travel without feeling underpowered.

Hyundai plans to commence sales of the Staria Electric in Europe during the first half of 2026, with other markets potentially to follow depending on demand and regulatory alignment. While there is no official confirmation about availability in India yet, the strong interest in larger EV platforms globally could pave the way for future introductions in markets that value spacious seating and zero-emission mobility.

Overall, the Staria Electric represents an important step for Hyundai as it expands its EV portfolio beyond passenger hatchbacks and SUVs into the larger, family and commercial vehicle segment. With competitive range, rapid charging, and flexible seating, it aims to challenge other big electric people-movers and set a benchmark in the segment for practicality and everyday usability
