India’s drag racing scene has witnessed a historic moment with a new national quarter-mile record being set by a heavily modified Audi R8. The record was achieved at the Vroom Drag Meet held at the Taneja Aerospace facility in Hosur, near Bengaluru, where racer Sean Rogers Pachigalla delivered a blistering performance that pushed the limits of speed in the country.

Pachigalla’s twin-turbo Audi R8 completed the quarter mile in just 8.693 seconds, making it the fastest recorded run by any car in India so far. This achievement also marked a significant improvement over his own previous best timing of 8.849 seconds, underlining the rapid pace of development in India’s growing drag racing culture.

The record-breaking Audi R8 is based on the V10+ variant and has undergone extensive mechanical upgrades. The car features a Sheepey Race twin-turbo setup and is believed to produce well over 1,600 horsepower. With such immense power on tap, the R8 has evolved from a high-performance supercar into a purpose-built drag machine capable of competing at an international level.

This is not the first time the same Audi R8 has rewritten national records. Back in December 2024, the car broke the Indian quarter-mile record for the first time at The Valley Run event, clocking 9.535 seconds. That run had ended a long-standing record previously held by a Nissan Skyline GT-R prepared for drag racing. Since then, continuous improvements helped the R8 dip below the nine-second barrier earlier this year before achieving the latest milestone at Hosur.

Beyond the record itself, the performance also played a key role in securing major championship success. Sean Rogers Pachigalla clinched the FMSCI Indian National Drag Racing Championship title in the unrestricted category, showcasing consistency across multiple competitive events. His team, Modcrew, also emerged victorious in the teams’ unrestricted championship standings.

The championship battle remained intense throughout the season, with Imran Majid finishing just 5.5 points behind Pachigalla. The close margin highlighted the rising competitiveness of Indian drag racing and the growing number of high-performance machines entering the sport.

With sub-nine-second runs now becoming a reality in India, the new Audi R8 record sets a fresh benchmark for domestic motorsports and signals an exciting future for drag racing enthusiasts across the country.
