Ducati Monster V2 India Price And Specs: What The New V2 Engine Changes

Ducati has launched the new Monster V2 in India, priced between Rs 13.99 lakh and Rs 14.45 lakh (ex-showroom) depending on variant and colour. The bike comes in two trims, Monster and Monster+, with the higher variant adding a headlight cowl and a passenger seat cover over the standard bike.

The real story here isn’t the styling refresh, it’s what’s under the tank. Ducati has dropped the old 937cc Testastretta twin in favour of a new 890cc V2 engine, the same unit that does duty in the Panigale V2, Streetfighter V2, and Multistrada V2. It makes 110.7 hp at 9,000rpm and 91.1 Nm of torque at 7,250rpm, and Ducati has fitted Intake Variable Timing to keep the power usable across a wider band. More than 80 percent of peak torque is on tap between 4,000rpm and 10,000rpm, which should make the bike far friendlier in city traffic than the outgoing model’s peakier delivery.

Weight is down too. The new Monster V2 tips the scales at 175kg with an empty tank, 4kg lighter than before, and it now rides on an aluminium monocoque chassis rather than the older frame design. Seat height has dropped by 5mm to 815mm, which will matter for shorter riders eyeing a big-twin naked. Fuel capacity stays at 14 litres despite the tank looking visually larger, so don’t expect a range bump.

Cosmetically, the Monster gets a reworked bison-back tank, a full-LED headlamp, and a narrower seat. Lower panel covers now carry the coordinates of Ducati’s Borgo Panigale factory alongside the brand shield, a small but deliberate throwback detail. Titanium-lined silencers with carbon end caps, developed with Termignoni, round off the exhaust setup. Buyers can pick from three colours: Ducati Red, Iceberg White, and Sport Livery.

Ducati is also pitching lower running costs as part of the pitch. Maintenance intervals have been stretched to 45,000km, a meaningful jump that should reduce dealer visits over the bike’s life.

In the Indian market, the new Monster V2 goes up against the Triumph Street Triple, Kawasaki Z900, and BMW F 900 R, a segment where low weight and rideability now matter as much as raw horsepower. At under Rs 14.5 lakh ex-showroom for the top trim, Ducati is betting that a lighter, easier-to-live-with V2 twin is enough to hold its ground against faster-selling four-cylinder and three-cylinder rivals.
