Tesla has expanded its presence in India with the launch of the Model Y L, priced at ₹61.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The new variant introduces a more spacious configuration and targets buyers in the premium electric SUV segment.
The Model Y L is a long-wheelbase version of the standard Tesla Model Y, designed to offer increased cabin space and enhanced passenger comfort. One of its key highlights is the six-seat layout arranged in a 2+2+2 configuration, making it suitable for families and customers seeking added practicality.
Positioned as a more premium offering, the Model Y L strengthens Tesla’s strategy to expand its portfolio in India. The company has been gradually building its presence in the market, and the introduction of this variant reflects its intent to cater to a wider range of buyers within the luxury EV space.
In terms of performance, the Model Y L is equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, delivering strong acceleration and stability. It also offers a claimed driving range of up to around 681 km on a single charge, placing it among the higher-range electric SUVs available in India.
The extended wheelbase plays a significant role in improving rear-seat comfort and overall cabin usability. The interior follows Tesla’s signature minimalist design, featuring a large central touchscreen, connected car technology, and advanced driver assistance features.
The launch comes at a time when demand for premium SUVs and electric vehicles is steadily growing in India. However, the pricing reflects its positioning in a niche segment, influenced by import duties and the premium nature of the brand.
With the Model Y L, Tesla aims to attract buyers looking for a blend of space, performance, and advanced technology in an electric vehicle. The move is expected to further strengthen its foothold in India’s evolving EV market.
