Gujarat Leads India’s Three-Wheeler Sales in Q3 FY2025-26

Gujarat recorded the highest three-wheeler sales share in India during the third quarter of FY2025-26, accounting for around 11.7 percent of total national sales between October and December 2025. The state narrowly led the rankings ahead of Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, according to official industry data.

This development is significant because the three-wheeler segment plays a crucial role in India’s urban and semi-urban mobility ecosystem. These vehicles are widely used for passenger transport as auto-rickshaws and for last-mile goods delivery. Strong sales typically reflect active local economies, growing urbanisation and sustained demand for affordable mobility solutions.

India sold approximately 2.15 lakh three-wheelers nationwide in Q3 FY2025-26, marking one of the strongest quarterly performances for the segment in recent years. Gujarat’s leadership came with a very narrow margin over Uttar Pradesh, which held a share of around 11.5 percent. Maharashtra followed closely at about 11.2 percent, highlighting intense competition among the top three states.

Karnataka ranked among the stronger contributors with nearly 7.8 percent of national sales. Bihar also recorded a notable 7.6 percent share, reflecting strong passenger transport demand in smaller cities and towns where three-wheelers remain a primary mobility option.

Southern and northeastern states also showed consistent performance. Andhra Pradesh contributed roughly 5.4 percent of sales, while Assam accounted for about 5.3 percent. Tamil Nadu and Kerala followed with shares slightly above five percent each, indicating stable demand in urban transport and light cargo movement.

Madhya Pradesh and Telangana registered shares of approximately 4.3 percent and 4.0 percent respectively. Rajasthan and Odisha recorded contributions in the range of three percent, while Jharkhand and West Bengal maintained steady but comparatively smaller volumes.

At a regional level, western India remained a key driver of automotive demand across vehicle categories. The strength of the region was also reflected in larger transport segments, as seen in Maharashtra Leads Commercial Vehicle Sales Q3 FY2025-26, which topped national commercial vehicle sales during the same quarter.

The three-wheeler category serves a dual purpose in India. Passenger auto-rickshaws form the backbone of short-distance urban mobility, while cargo variants are widely used for last-mile delivery in crowded city environments where larger commercial vehicles are less practical.

The third quarter often coincides with fleet expansion and vehicle replacement cycles, especially following major festive periods. This seasonal factor, combined with stable economic activity, contributed to the strong Q3 FY2025-26 performance.

With Gujarat leading state-wise sales in the segment, the data underscores the state’s continued importance in India’s mobility landscape and highlights sustained demand for affordable transport solutions across regions.
