Hyundai i20 Era base variant front profile India launch

Hyundai Motor India has introduced a new i20 Era variant at a starting price of ₹5.99 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it as the most affordable entry point into the premium hatchback’s lineup. The move brings the i20 closer to value-focused buyers at a time when competition in the segment remains intense. By lowering the entry price while retaining core safety and design elements, Hyundai is targeting first-time buyers and upgrade customers looking for a feature-rich yet accessible hatchback.

The new Era trim sits at the base of the i20 range but continues to carry the model’s sharp styling and modern proportions. Hyundai has retained the signature cascading grille, sculpted bonnet lines and clean rear design, ensuring the car maintains its premium visual identity even in its entry form. Body-coloured bumpers and door handles, along with 14-inch wheels, give the variant a cohesive appearance rather than a stripped-down look.

Safety remains a key highlight. The i20 Era comes equipped with six airbags as standard, aligning with Hyundai’s broader strategy of offering enhanced safety across its lineup. It also features Hill Assist Control, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat mounts and three-point seatbelts for all passengers. In a segment where base variants often compromise on safety features, this equipment list strengthens the i20’s value proposition.

Inside the cabin, the Era trim focuses on practicality and everyday usability. It includes a digital instrument cluster, manual air conditioning, front power windows and adjustable steering. USB charging ports are provided to support modern connectivity needs. While the standard variant keeps features functional and straightforward, buyers have the option to add a larger infotainment system as an accessory through dealerships, allowing some degree of customization.

Under the hood, the i20 Era continues with the familiar 1.2-litre petrol engine. The naturally aspirated unit is known for its smooth performance and balanced power delivery suited for both city driving and highway use. Paired with a manual transmission, the powertrain remains unchanged, ensuring reliability and predictable ownership costs.

The introduction of the i20 Era comes at a time when buyers are increasingly price-sensitive but unwilling to compromise on safety and design. With its competitive starting price and standard six airbags, Hyundai appears to be reinforcing the i20’s position as a strong contender in the premium hatchback segment.

By expanding the lower end of the lineup, Hyundai is aiming to attract a broader customer base while maintaining the i20’s premium identity. The new Era variant is expected to appeal particularly to urban buyers looking for a well-equipped hatchback without stretching their budgets.

As the premium hatchback space continues to evolve, Hyundai’s pricing and feature strategy with the i20 Era signals a renewed push toward maximum value impact in the segment.
