KTM has launched the 390 Adventure R in India, expanding its adventure motorcycle lineup with a more off-road-focused offering. The new variant is priced at Rs 3.78 lakh, ex-showroom, and is positioned for riders looking for stronger trail capability while retaining everyday usability. The launch adds another option to KTM’s 390 Adventure range, which already caters to touring and mixed-use riding.

The 390 Adventure R is designed to offer improved performance on rough terrain compared to the standard 390 Adventure. KTM has equipped the motorcycle with longer suspension travel at both ends, allowing it to handle uneven surfaces, broken roads and trails with greater confidence. This setup reflects the brand’s intent to target riders who prefer off-road riding without moving to larger and more expensive adventure motorcycles.

One of the key visual and functional changes on the 390 Adventure R is the wheel setup. The motorcycle comes with a 21-inch front wheel and an 18-inch rear wheel, a configuration typically associated with off-road and rally-style motorcycles. The use of spoked wheels with tube-type tyres further reinforces its trail-oriented character and helps improve durability in demanding riding conditions.

Powering the KTM 390 Adventure R is the same 398.7 cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine used across the 390 range. The engine delivers strong performance for its class and is paired with a six-speed gearbox. This motor is known for its responsive nature and has been tuned to offer a balance between highway touring and low-speed control, which is important for off-road riding.

The motorcycle also benefits from KTM’s electronics package, which supports rider safety and control. Features such as ride-by-wire throttle, traction control and ABS are carried over, helping riders manage varying road and terrain conditions. These systems are particularly useful when transitioning between paved roads and loose surfaces during long-distance rides.

In terms of ergonomics, the 390 Adventure R adopts a taller stance compared to its siblings. The increased ground clearance and higher seat height are intended to improve obstacle clearance and rider confidence when riding off-road. While this may make the bike slightly more demanding for shorter riders in city traffic, it aligns with the motorcycle’s adventure-focused positioning.

KTM has priced the 390 Adventure R competitively within its lineup. Despite offering more off-road-oriented hardware, the motorcycle is positioned below some higher-spec variants, making it an attractive option for enthusiasts who prioritise trail capability. The pricing strategy suggests KTM’s aim to widen the appeal of adventure motorcycling to a broader audience in India.

The launch of the 390 Adventure R reflects the growing interest in adventure and dual-purpose motorcycles in the Indian market. Riders are increasingly looking for bikes that can handle long highway journeys as well as poor road conditions and off-road trails. With this new variant, KTM strengthens its presence in the segment by offering a motorcycle that leans more toward serious off-road use while remaining accessible.

Bookings for the KTM 390 Adventure R are now open across authorised KTM dealerships in India. Deliveries are expected to begin shortly, giving adventure enthusiasts another capable option in the mid-capacity motorcycle segment.
