Maruti Suzuki Leads India’s Car Exports for Fifth Consecutive Year

India’s Top Car Exporter in 2025

Maruti Suzuki has retained its position as India’s largest passenger vehicle exporter for the fifth consecutive year, closing calendar year 2025 at the top of the export charts. The automaker recorded its highest-ever annual export volume, reinforcing its dominance in overseas markets and highlighting India’s growing importance as a global automobile manufacturing base.

This achievement matters now because global automotive demand has been uneven, yet India-made vehicles continue to find steady acceptance abroad. Maruti Suzuki’s performance underlines the country’s ability to deliver scale, cost efficiency, and consistent quality for international buyers.

Record Export Volume and Market Reach

In 2025, Maruti Suzuki exported approximately 3.95 lakh passenger vehicles, marking a strong year-on-year increase. This is the highest export figure the company has achieved in a single year.

Exports were spread across over 100 international markets, covering regions such as Asia, Africa, Latin America, and parts of Europe. The company shipped a wide range of India-manufactured models, reflecting diversified demand rather than reliance on a single product line.

Entry Into Electric Vehicle Exports

A notable development during the year was the start of electric vehicle exports from India. Maruti Suzuki began overseas shipments of its first battery-electric vehicle produced domestically, marking an important transition in India’s export profile.

This move signals that India is no longer limited to exporting only petrol-powered small cars but is gradually becoming a source for electric vehicles as well. It also aligns with the broader shift toward cleaner mobility in global markets.

SUVs Drive Overseas Demand

Compact SUVs played a significant role in sustaining export momentum during 2025. Certain models achieved major export milestones within a short period, highlighting the rising global appetite for Indian-built SUVs that balance affordability, efficiency, and practicality.

The success of these models indicates a shift in India’s export mix, with SUVs contributing more strongly alongside traditional hatchbacks.

Manufacturing Strength Supports Exports

Maruti Suzuki’s export leadership was supported by record annual production levels in India. High plant utilisation and efficient supply chains enabled the company to meet both domestic demand and overseas requirements without disruption.

Strong manufacturing output also ensured consistent availability for export markets, which is critical for maintaining long-term international partnerships.

What This Means for India’s Auto Industry

Maruti Suzuki’s fifth straight year at the top of India’s car export rankings reflects long-term manufacturing stability rather than short-term gains. For the wider industry, it strengthens India’s position as a reliable global automotive hub, particularly for small cars, compact SUVs, and now electric vehicles.

The achievement also supports India’s ambition to expand its share in global vehicle exports in the coming years.
