Toyota has officially teased the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV ahead of its India unveiling scheduled for January 19, 2026, confirming the company’s next step in expanding its electric vehicle presence in the country. The teaser was released on January 7, 2026, and highlights Toyota’s plans to enter the competitive midsize electric SUV segment with a locally relevant product.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV will be the brand’s first mass-market battery electric SUV for India. Developed under the global Toyota–Suzuki partnership, the electric SUV is expected to share its core platform with the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara. However, Toyota has made it clear that the Urban Cruiser EV will feature brand-specific styling elements, interior differentiation, and tuning to maintain its distinct identity.

In the teaser visuals, the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV showcases a sharp and modern lighting signature. The SUV features slim LED headlamps paired with a connected daytime running light design, giving it a clean and futuristic front profile. The closed-off front fascia, dedicated EV badging, and aerodynamic design cues reinforce its all-electric positioning, while the overall silhouette suggests a compact yet upright SUV aimed at urban buyers.

Although Toyota has not officially revealed interior details, the cabin of the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV is expected to focus on technology and comfort. Based on its shared architecture, the electric SUV is likely to feature a large touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, and connected car technology. Additional expected features include wireless smartphone connectivity, automatic climate control, and premium interior materials to appeal to buyers upgrading from petrol or diesel SUVs.

Powertrain details will be confirmed at the unveiling, but the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV is expected to offer more than one battery option. A larger battery pack is anticipated to deliver a driving range close to 500 km under standard test conditions, making it suitable for both city use and longer trips. The electric motor setup is expected to prioritise smooth acceleration and efficiency, aligning with Toyota’s focus on reliability and everyday usability. Fast-charging support is also expected to be part of the package.

Safety is likely to be a strong selling point for the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV. The electric SUV is expected to offer multiple airbags, electronic stability control, and a suite of advanced driver assistance systems. These features would align the model with Toyota’s global safety standards and meet rising expectations in the Indian EV market.

In terms of positioning, the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV is expected to be priced in the ₹20 lakh to ₹25 lakh ex-showroom range. This places it directly against upcoming electric SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Curvv EV, MG’s electric models, and Mahindra’s new-generation EV lineup. Toyota’s strong brand reputation and after-sales network could play a key role in attracting first-time EV buyers.

With the official unveiling just days away, the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV is set to become a crucial product for the brand as it transitions from hybrids to full electric vehicles in India.
