MG Is Taking On Fortuner With a Bold Move Tomorrow

February 11, 2026

MG Motor India is set to unveil its new flagship SUV, the MG Majestor tomorrow, marking a significant move in India’s highly competitive three row SUV segment. The launch comes at a time when demand for premium seven seater SUVs continues to grow steadily, driven by large families, business users, and buyers upgrading from mid size SUVs.

A Strategic Position Above the Gloster

The Majestor will sit above the MG Gloster in the company’s Indian portfolio. Rather than being a minor update, this model represents a more aggressive positioning strategy for MG in the traditional ladder frame SUV category.

The SUV is expected to feature a bold front fascia, a larger grille, sharp LED lighting elements, a muscular bonnet, and a more imposing stance overall. The design direction clearly signals MG’s intention to compete directly with established segment leaders rather than simply offer an alternative.

Entering a Battlefield Dominated by Established Players

The seven seater D plus SUV segment in India is currently dominated by models such as the Toyota Fortuner Legender, Jeep Meridian, and Skoda Kodiaq. These vehicles enjoy strong brand recall and loyal customer bases.

With the Majestor, MG appears to be targeting buyers who want premium features and strong road presence without paying a steep premium solely for brand value. Industry observers believe competitive pricing combined with an extensive feature list could help MG attract customers who are comparing multiple options in this space.

Expected Powertrain and Performance

While official specifications will be revealed at launch, reports suggest the Majestor will likely be powered by a 2.0 litre twin turbo diesel engine producing around 210 to 215 bhp and approximately 470 to 480 Nm of torque. An 8 speed automatic transmission is expected, along with both rear wheel drive and four wheel drive configurations.

This setup would position the Majestor as a serious contender for buyers who prioritise highway performance, towing capability, and occasional off road use.

Focus on Technology and Comfort

Premium SUV buyers today expect more than just size and power. Advanced driver assistance systems, connected car technology, a large touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, and multi zone climate control are likely to be part of the package.

If MG manages to offer a feature rich cabin while maintaining competitive pricing, the Majestor could appeal strongly to buyers looking for value in the full size SUV segment.

The launch of the Majestor also reflects MG’s broader India strategy. As the market gradually shifts towards electrification in the long term, there remains strong short to mid term demand for large diesel SUVs, especially in tier two and tier three cities.

All eyes will be on tomorrow’s official announcement for confirmed pricing, variant breakdown, and booking details. The Majestor’s real impact will depend not just on its specifications, but on how convincingly it can challenge the long standing leaders in India’s premium seven seater SUV category.
