Toyota’s Urban Cruiser Hyryder has emerged as one of the brand’s strongest performers in India, recently outselling the long-established Innova twice within the past four months. The development reflects the growing demand for midsize SUVs in the Indian market and highlights how customer preferences are gradually shifting toward SUV body styles.

In February 2026, Toyota dispatched 9,359 units of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. During the same month, the combined sales of the Innova Hycross and Innova Crysta stood at 8,703 units. This allowed the Hyryder to become Toyota’s top-selling model for the month, underlining the increasing popularity of SUVs in the company’s portfolio.

Hyryder Becomes Toyota’s Monthly Bestseller

The February numbers represent one of the strongest monthly performances for the Hyryder since its launch. The SUV’s sales have been steadily rising as buyers show strong interest in the midsize SUV segment.

With 9,359 units sold in February, the Hyryder contributed nearly 30 percent of Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s total passenger vehicle dispatches of 30,737 units during the month. In comparison, the Innova lineup accounted for about 28 percent of the company’s overall passenger vehicle sales during the same period.

Together, the Hyryder and the Innova lineup generated 18,062 units in February. This means the two models alone represented nearly 59 percent of Toyota’s total passenger vehicle dispatches for the month, making them the brand’s primary volume drivers in the Indian market.

Innova Still Leads in Financial Year Sales

Despite the Hyryder’s strong recent performance, the Innova remains Toyota’s best-selling model when total sales for the financial year are considered.

Between April 2025 and February 2026, the combined sales of the Innova Hycross and Innova Crysta reached 102,030 units. During the same period, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder recorded sales of 89,684 units.

This means the Innova still maintains a lead of more than 12,000 units in cumulative sales during the current financial year. Within the Innova lineup, the hybrid-powered Innova Hycross contributes a significant share of the model’s overall sales.

Hyryder Approaching a Major Sales Milestone

The Hyryder’s strong performance during the current financial year could push the SUV toward an important milestone. With 89,684 units already sold in the first eleven months of FY2026, the model is close to reaching the 100,000 annual sales mark.

If the SUV records more than 10,000 units in March, it could cross the 100,000-unit milestone for the first time since its introduction in the Indian market.

The Hyryder competes in the highly competitive midsize SUV segment and offers multiple powertrain options, including petrol, CNG and strong-hybrid variants. These choices have helped the model attract a wider range of buyers.

Toyota on Track for Record Sales in FY2026

Toyota Kirloskar Motor is also moving toward its highest-ever annual passenger vehicle sales in India. During the first eleven months of FY2026, the company recorded total passenger vehicle sales of 331,778 units.

This figure has already surpassed Toyota’s previous full-year record of 309,230 units achieved in FY2025. If the current momentum continues, the company’s total passenger vehicle sales could reach around 360,000 units by the end of the financial year.

Strong demand for models such as the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and the Innova lineup has played a key role in this growth. Their performance reflects the continued expansion of the SUV and MPV segments in the Indian automotive market.
