Volkswagen India has confirmed that the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line will be launched in India on February 19. The SUV will become the brand’s new flagship offering in the country.
The launch is significant as it marks Volkswagen’s re-entry into the premium three-row SUV space. With demand for larger SUVs remaining steady in India, the Tayron R-Line is expected to strengthen the company’s presence in the upper mid-size and premium SUV segment.
Flagship Position in India Line-up
The Tayron R-Line will sit above the Tiguan in Volkswagen’s India portfolio. It replaces the gap left by the earlier Tiguan Allspace and is positioned as a more spacious and feature-rich alternative for buyers looking for a seven-seat configuration.
The model is being assembled in India at Volkswagen’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility through the CKD route. Local assembly is intended to support competitive pricing within the premium bracket.
Engine and Performance
For the Indian market, the Tayron R-Line will be powered by a 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine. The unit is expected to produce around 200 PS and 320 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission.
Volkswagen is also expected to offer its 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system, giving the SUV stronger road presence and improved traction capabilities.
Design and Features
The R-Line variant carries sportier styling cues, including unique bumpers, larger alloy wheels and distinctive badging. The SUV measures over 4.7 metres in length and offers three rows of seating.
Expected feature highlights include:
- Fully digital instrument cluster
- Large touchscreen infotainment system
- Panoramic sunroof
- Three-zone climate control
- Advanced safety and driver assistance systems
The interior layout is designed to accommodate six or seven occupants, depending on the configuration offered in India.
Segment Competition
Once launched, the Tayron R-Line will compete with premium SUVs such as the Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota Fortuner and Jeep Meridian. Official pricing and variant details will be announced at the launch event on February 19.
With this launch, Volkswagen aims to expand its footprint in one of India’s most competitive and value-rich SUV segments.
