Kia India has announced that its subcompact SUV, the Kia Sonet, has crossed cumulative sales of 5 lakh units in the Indian market. The milestone marks a significant achievement for the automaker since the model’s launch and underlines the Sonet’s sustained performance in one of the country’s most competitive passenger vehicle segments.
According to Kia India, the Sonet currently contributes around 35 percent of the company’s domestic sales volumes, highlighting its importance within the brand’s India portfolio. The model has consistently remained among Kia’s top-selling vehicles, supporting the company’s overall growth and market presence.
Commenting on the milestone, Sunhack Park, Chief Sales Officer at Kia India, said the achievement reflects strong customer trust in the brand. He noted that each unit sold represents customer confidence in Kia’s approach to design, technology and performance, adding that the Sonet has played a key role in expanding Kia’s footprint across diverse customer groups.
The Sonet has demonstrated steady demand since launch, recording annual sales of over 1 lakh units for two consecutive years. Kia India has also observed a gradual shift in customer preference toward higher-spec variants, indicating increasing demand for premium features and connected mobility technologies within the subcompact SUV segment.
Beyond the domestic market, the Sonet has emerged as an important export model for Kia India. More than 1 lakh units of the SUV have been shipped to nearly 70 international markets, including regions across the Middle East and Africa, Central and South America, Mexico and the Asia-Pacific. The vehicle is manufactured at Kia’s Anantapur facility in Andhra Pradesh as part of the company’s “Make in India, for the World” strategy.
Kia India currently operates 821 sales and service touchpoints across 369 cities nationwide. Since commencing operations in August 2019, the automaker has launched nine models in India and has dispatched around 1.5 million vehicles from its Anantapur plant, which has an annual production capacity of 3 lakh units.
