The VinFast VF6 has achieved a 5-star safety rating under the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP), highlighting the electric SUV’s strong performance in both adult and child occupant protection tests. The rating places the VF6 among the safest electric vehicles evaluated under India’s latest crash test norms and marks a key milestone for the brand in the Indian market.
According to the Bharat NCAP test results released on January 22, the VF6 scored 27.13 points out of a possible 32 in Adult Occupant Protection and 44.41 points out of 49 in Child Occupant Protection. These scores were sufficient to earn the maximum 5-star rating, reflecting consistent protection levels across multiple crash scenarios, including frontal offset and side impact tests.
In frontal offset deformable barrier tests, the VF6 demonstrated good protection for critical body regions such as the head, neck and pelvis for both the driver and front passenger. The side movable deformable barrier test delivered full points, indicating strong structural integrity and effective side-impact protection. However, the assessment noted comparatively weaker chest protection for the driver during frontal impact, even as overall protection levels remained within the highest safety band.
The vehicle’s performance has been supported by a comprehensive set of standard safety features. These include seven airbags, with coverage extending to a driver knee airbag, three-point seat belts with reminders for all occupants, electronic stability control, and ISOFIX child seat anchor points. Together, these systems contribute to improved restraint effectiveness and vehicle stability during crash situations.
Beyond passive safety, the VF6 is also equipped with advanced driver assistance technologies designed to help prevent accidents. The model features Level-2 ADAS functions along with support systems such as a 360-degree surround-view camera and front and rear parking sensors. Compliance with pedestrian protection requirements under Indian safety regulations further strengthens its overall safety profile.
The 5-star Bharat NCAP rating comes at a time when safety has become a decisive factor for buyers in the electric SUV segment. As competition intensifies and regulatory focus on crash performance increases, the VF6’s top safety score is expected to enhance consumer confidence and reinforce the growing emphasis on high safety standards in India’s EV market.
