Mahindra has officially launched the XEV 9S, marking a crucial step in the electric vehicle revolution as the first mass-market 3-row electric SUV in India. Priced at an introductory Rs 19.95 lakh for the entry-level Pack One Above variant, this model aims to redefine family SUVs. In the broader EV movement, premium electric options like the BMW iX1 Long Wheelbase are also rising in popularity, creating a dynamic ecosystem of electric choices in India.

Battery, Range & Performance

The XEV 9S is offered with 59kWh, 70kWh, and 79kWh battery options:

  • 59kWh → 521 km (ARAI)
  • 79kWh → 679 km (ARAI)

DC fast charging ensures quick recharge times, suitable for both urban and highway usage.

Safety, Features & Comfort

ADAS, auto-parking, drowsiness detection, Harman Kardon audio, and multi-color ambient lighting enhance the driving experience. Front-row seat adjustment from the second row adds convenience.

Market Position & Competition

The XEV 9S currently has minimal direct competition in the mass-market 3-row EV segment. While pricing overlaps with the Tata Harrier EV, it stands distinct due to its electric focus and practicality. Meanwhile, Mahindra’s commitment to electric innovation is also visible in motorsports, such as their Formula E Gen4 participation, which accelerates EV technology development.

As test drives begin on December 5 and bookings open on January 14, the XEV 9S is positioned to reshape India’s electric vehicle space — standing alongside premium EVs like the BMW iX1 LWB as part of India’s evolving EV market.

In summary, the Mahindra XEV 9S is more than just another electric vehicle; it is a bold statement towards the future of sustainable family transport, combining practicality with advanced technology. As the first of its kind in India, it is likely to become a staple for families looking for a reliable, eco-friendly vehicle.
