Maruti Suzuki India reported largely flat domestic wholesale sales in February, with total dispatches of around 1.74 lakh units, almost unchanged compared to the same month last year. The performance is significant because Maruti Suzuki’s monthly volumes are closely watched as a barometer of India’s passenger vehicle demand and overall market sentiment.
The company’s total domestic sales, including passenger vehicles, light commercial vehicles and sales to other OEMs, stood at approximately 1,74,840 units in February, marginally higher than about 1,74,379 units recorded in February of the previous year. The near-flat growth indicates steady but subdued demand in the domestic market during the month.
When exports are included, total sales rose to about 2,13,995 units, reflecting a year-on-year increase supported by strong overseas shipments. Export growth played a key role in lifting overall volumes, even as domestic dispatches remained broadly stable.
In the domestic market, passenger vehicle sales accounted for the majority of volumes at around 1.61 lakh units. Utility vehicles and compact cars continued to form a substantial portion of the portfolio. Light commercial vehicle sales were reported at just over 3,000 units, while sales to other OEMs contributed more than 10,000 units.
The flat domestic performance contrasts with expectations of stronger year-on-year growth across the passenger vehicle industry in February. However, the stability in volumes suggests that demand for Maruti’s core models remains consistent despite market fluctuations.
Exports have become an increasingly important growth driver for the company. The improvement in overseas shipments highlights Maruti Suzuki’s expanding global footprint and its ability to balance domestic market variability with international demand.
The February numbers also underline the evolving mix within the company’s portfolio. Utility vehicles have been gaining prominence in recent years, reflecting broader consumer preference shifts toward SUVs and higher ground-clearance models. At the same time, compact and entry-level vehicles continue to contribute significantly to total volumes.
As India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki’s monthly sales figures often influence broader industry sentiment. A flat performance in a given month does not necessarily signal a downturn, but it does indicate that growth momentum remains moderate in the domestic passenger vehicle segment.
Going forward, sales performance will depend on seasonal buying patterns, production planning, rural and urban demand trends, and overall economic conditions. For now, February’s data reflects stability in domestic demand, with exports providing additional support to total volumes.
Maruti Suzuki’s performance in the coming months will be closely tracked to assess whether domestic demand strengthens further or continues at a steady pace.
