Audi India has confirmed that it will launch the Audi SQ8 in the country on March 17. The performance-oriented SUV will expand the brand’s Q8 range, sitting between the standard Q8 and the range-topping RS Q8.
The launch is significant because it adds a new high-performance luxury SUV option for Indian buyers who want more power and sportiness than the regular Q8, but without moving to the full RS specification. With demand for performance SUVs steadily growing in the luxury segment, the SQ8 fills an important gap in Audi’s portfolio.
The SQ8 is based on the recently updated Q8 and carries sharper styling and sport-focused enhancements. It features Audi’s bold single-frame grille, sleek LED lighting, and coupe-like SUV proportions. Compared to the standard Q8, the SQ8 gets distinctive styling elements, including sportier bumpers, larger alloy wheels and SQ-specific detailing.
Internationally, the SQ8 is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine paired with an automatic transmission and Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive system. The engine produces significantly higher output than the standard Q8, delivering strong acceleration and enhanced driving dynamics. While final India-spec power figures will be officially confirmed at launch, the SUV is expected to offer a similar configuration.
Inside, the SQ8 combines luxury and sportiness. It typically features premium upholstery, contrast stitching, sport seats, brushed aluminium or carbon-fibre inserts, and Audi’s dual touchscreen infotainment layout. A fully digital instrument cluster and advanced driver assistance systems are also part of the package.
The SQ8 will be positioned below the RS Q8 in India’s lineup. The RS Q8 is currently the most powerful and expensive Q8 variant available in the country. By introducing the SQ8, Audi is giving buyers a mid-tier performance option that balances everyday usability with strong performance credentials.
Pricing for the SQ8 will be announced at launch. It is expected to be placed between the standard Q8 and the RS Q8, making it more accessible than the flagship RS model while still offering a V8 performance experience.
With the March 17 launch date confirmed, the SQ8 becomes one of Audi India’s key performance introductions this year. The model strengthens the brand’s SUV portfolio and reinforces its focus on premium performance vehicles in the Indian market.
